Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 Rebuild Diary

My Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 Rebuild Diary 2007.

01-September-2007. Starting to look at rebuilding the centre section. My plan is to assemble as much as possible, but I expect to stop to locate parts I don't have. When this happens I will move onto the few jobs I need to do on the wings. Therefore I can place a larger order for supplies rather than lots of smaller orders - as mostly the parts will have to be shipped from the US.

I have also created a HELP ME page on this site for areas/parts etc that I don't know what fits. Please have a look especially if you have a Great Lakes 2T-1A-2.
Here is this evenings progress:

Cleaning up the leading edge - it is in good conditon and will be reused.

One of the spar/wing brackets.

I am checking the alignment on the original.

Rear spar bracket.

I am checking to see how the original spar fits into the attachment bracket.

Underside of rear bracket - a long bolt passes vertically through the spar. Going to be fun drilling that in the new spar!!!

The new spar, from Brent Patty. Includes the side parts. Have not found any maple blocks with the other new parts so I will locate some maple and make some new ones. One reason for starting the center section now.

I checked the new spar against the old one and the plans.

When I compaired the new and old spar....... I found they are different lengths!

So I put the spar/wing bracket back in place - but fitted the bolts this time. Umm, spar seems a bit short!. Note I have removed one side packing to examine the bolt holes.
